What we check

Six checks behind every seal

Anyone can call themselves licensed and insured. The badge means we looked. Every check is done by a person at TrenchlessRepair.com and redone every 12 months.

CHECK 1

Owner interview

We talk with the owner about the trenchless work the company actually does — methods, crews, typical jobs — not just what the website says.

CHECK 2

Active contractor license

We look the license up with the state licensing board and confirm it's active, in the company's name, and covers sewer or plumbing work.

CHECK 3

Liability insurance

A current certificate of insurance showing at least $1,000,000 in general liability. We note the expiration date and ask for the renewal.

CHECK 4

Owns its trenchless equipment

Lining, bursting and camera equipment the company owns and runs itself — not rented or borrowed for the day of your job.

CHECK 5

Does its own trenchless work

The company you hire is the crew that shows up. We confirm trenchless jobs aren't handed off to subcontractors.

CHECK 6

Reputation review

We read the public record: Google and other reviews (4.0 stars or better across at least 10 reviews) and any open licensing-board or BBB complaints.

For homeowners

  • The company is licensed in your state and carries real liability insurance, and we have the certificate.
  • The crew that digs the access pits is the company you hired, using its own equipment.
  • Past customers are, on the whole, happy with them.
  • What it isn't: a warranty on your job. Always get a written estimate, and ask what warranty the company gives on the liner or new pipe.

Questions

About the badge

What does the Verified badge mean?

A person at TrenchlessRepair.com checked six things about the company: an owner interview, an active contractor license, at least $1 million in liability insurance, that it owns its trenchless equipment, that it does its own trenchless work, and its public reviews and complaint record.

Does Verified mean you guarantee the work?

No. Verified means the company passed our checks when we reviewed it. It isn't a warranty on any job. Always get a written estimate, and ask what warranty the company gives on the liner or new pipe.

How much does verification cost?

Nothing extra. Verification is included with the Enhanced and Pro listings. Companies on the free or Regular listing can apply; the badge appears as soon as they move to Enhanced or Pro.

How long does it take?

Most companies hear back within 3 business days. The longest part is usually getting a current certificate of insurance from the agent.

How long does the badge last?

Twelve months. We ask for the insurance renewal when the policy renews, and we remove the badge if coverage lapses or the license becomes inactive.

Can a company lose the badge?

Yes: a lapsed license or insurance, a pattern of serious complaints, or subcontracting trenchless jobs after telling us it doesn't.
